How long have you been practicing yoga?

I started a regular practice at the age of 18, at the end of my senior year of high school. I’d taken a few yoga classes before, but when a new “Hot Yoga” studio opened in my are, I became obsessed and starting going as often as I could. 7 years later and my yoga practice has been the most consistent thing in my life!
 

do i have to be flexible to practice yoga?

Not at all! Yoga is not about how flexible you are! However, if you want to become more flexible, consistency is key. A little bit of daily stretching goes a long way.
 

what shoud i wear for yoga?

I recommend comfortable clothing that is snug fitting and will stay in place. It’s distracting to have your shirt flopping into your face during downward dog! Something you feel comfortable and confident in is perfect. For me, this means high waisted leggings, a sports bra, and a higher-neck tank top. Also, yoga is much easier in bare feet!
 

How should i get started as a beginner?

Try many different classes or videos, and have fun! Be patient, there is a lot to learn! The most important thing is to listen to your body and to be safe. You do not want to get injured. Have fun with your practice, see what style vibes with you, and as you practice more you will get more familiar with the terms, poses, adjustments, breath, and gaze. Even after doing poses such as Warrior II for seven years, I still learn new things about the pose!
